A huge storm hit the United Arab Emirates, causing massive flooding that resulted in flight cancellations, school closings, and many cars in traffic being almost completely underwater.
Bloomberg reported the heavy rains that caused widespread flooding in the desert region is partly to blame due to clouding seeding.
Since the 1990s, the UAE has conducted research in cloud seeding to combat the country’s extremely dry weather, which causes water scarcity and restrains its agriculture sector.
A meteorologist for the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) in Abu Dubai told Grazia Middle East that cloud seeding operations were conducted within 24 hours before the storm hit.
“Whenever there are clouds in the sky, we conduct cloud seeding operations. From yesterday till today [Tuesday afternoon], we carried out six trips.” added the meteorologist.
As the heavy rain started to pour down, in some parts of the UAE, the sky started to turn green.

GRAZIA Middle East spoke to a meteorology expert from the NCM, who confirmed that cloud seeding operations had been conducted in the last 24 hours. The representative also shared details on how many of the trips took place.
“Whenever there are clouds in the sky, we conduct cloud seeding operations. From yesterday till today [Tuesday afternoon], we carried out six trips,” he said.
“There is a significant decrease in temperatures today and on Wednesday, it’s a drop of around 10 degrees Celsius,” he added.
The U.S. Government has also controlled the weather in the last century too.
