After reading the title of this article you may be thinking this is a Babylon Bee article but the answer is no.
A recent report commissioned by the Corps raises “concerns” over Marines using the terms “Sir” or “Ma’am” while addressing drill instructors due to Gender Neutrality worries.
Per the Marine Corps Times:
A new academic report on efforts to integrate Marine Corps boot camp recommends dropping gender-specific salutations for drill instructors, but service leaders are not convinced they want to take that step.
The lengthy report, commissioned by the Corps from the University of Pittsburgh in 2020 and completed in 2022, points out that half of the military services already have done away with gendered identifiers for training staff.
“The Army, Navy, and Coast Guard effectively de-emphasize gender in an integrated environment,” the report states. “Instead of saying ‘ma’am’ or ‘sir,’ recruits in these Services refer to their drill instructors using their ranks or roles followed by their last names. Gendered identifiers prime recruits to think about or visually search for a drill instructor’s gender first, before their rank or role.”
Will they put their preferred pronouns on their dog tags next so the enemy will know not to offend them?
That’s got to be the stupidest thing I have ever of, especially for the Marine Corps. I’m old Soldier, who put in 32 years, and I’ve meet and known boatloads and could never imagine ANY of them even thinking this fanciful woke notion of losing sir and ma’am. Utter stupidity and complete lack of military respect and tradition. Has to be a scam.

Seems to me what these folks here are trying to implement is a serious lack of critical thinking as they so poetically espouse from time to time. First off, the Bible wisdom from our creator states there is only man: Sir- (a respectful or formal term of address used to a man) and woman: ma’am referred to madam- (a polite term of address to a woman, originally used only to a woman of rank or authority). These examples pulled from dictionary.com. I do sincerely hope we hold these words of our creator above any ridiculous notion of whatever any human may try to conceive. Lastly, it’s just plain silly to think otherwise and detracts from a discipline aspect of respect while addressing the drill instructors. Ooo-Rah!
This would have saved me a lot of push-ups in bootcamp. One time I was being peppered with questions by 3 male and 1 female company commanders and it was fast “yes sir.” “Yes ma’am.” “No sir” one after the other then she asked me a question and I said “yes sir.” She lost her shit.
