The world was shocked by the sudden passing of Princess Diana in a fatal car crash in 1997, but not many people remember that there was only one survivor that tragic day and that lone survivor was her security guard, Trevor Rees-Jones.
Trevor Rees-Jones was the security guard for Princess Diana the day of the crash which he alone survived. Following the accident, Rees-Jones endured severe injuries, with reports stating that surgeons used 150 pieces of titanium to reconstruct his face.
With details regarding the last moments before the crash, Rees stated in a 2000 interview “I’m the only person who can tell people for real, and I can’t remember. It will be so easy if I do remember.
He subsequently quit his job with Mohamed Al Fayed and changed his name to Trevor Rees. He obtained a degree in security and risk management from the University of Leicester in 2004, and is currently the head of global security at Covid-19 vaccine amker AstraZeneca in Cambridge.
Prior to this, Rees-Jones had worked for the United Nations as a district security officer in 2000. This experience was documented in his book, “The Bodyguard’s Story”, published in 2000.
