Federal Bureau of Investigation agents executed a raid on a property owned by Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao early Thursday morning, according to sources confirmed by KRON4.com.
The raid took place at Mayor Thao’s residence on Maiden Lane in Oakland at 5:30 a.m. Agents continued to remain on-site as of 7:30 a.m., with an FBI agent on scene confirming the investigative activity to KRON4 News.
A spokesperson from the San Francisco FBI office stated that the operation involves “court authorized law enforcement” but declined to elaborate further.
This development comes as a recall effort against Mayor Thao is close to advancing on the November ballot.

As of 7:30 a.m., agents remained on the scene. An FBI agent at the scene confirmed to KRON4 News that the address was being investigated. A San Francisco FBI spokesperson told KRON4 that the agency is conducting “court authorized law enforcement” at the property.

The incident comes on the heels of a recall campaign against the mayor advancing to the November ballot.
