Authorities apprehended a suspect on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, reportedly after he attempted to use a fake ID at a McDonald’s, according to law enforcement sources.
The individual, who is under investigation for what is believed to be a calculated and deliberate killing outside a Manhattan hotel last week, was allegedly carrying a manifesto when taken into custody in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Police also reportedly discovered a firearm, a silencer, four fake IDs, and other items matching the evidence sought in the case, sources said. Investigators are still working to confirm the suspect’s true identity.
Local authorities acted on a tip that led to the arrest, sources noted, and the NYPD was en route to Altoona late Monday morning.
The arrest followed an extensive manhunt for the masked shooter who ambushed Thompson outside the Hilton on Sixth Avenue, where the 50-year-old CEO was scheduled to deliver a speech at an investor conference on Wednesday morning.
Surveillance footage captured the chilling scene as the shooter quietly approached Thompson from behind on the sidewalk, produced what appeared to be a silenced handgun, and fired multiple rounds at his back in a cold and calculated manner.
