Current mayor of Chicago, Illinois Lori Lightfoot has lost her re-election race.
The Washington Free Beacon reported mayoral candidates Democrat Paul Vallas and Brandon Johnson both edged out Lightfoot and will advance to the April 4th runoff.
In Chicago’s mayoral race a candidate must receive 50% of the vote in order to be elected.
If a candidate is unable to reach the 50% benchmark then the race heads to a run off.
Currently mail-in ballots are still being counted in several districts but Lightfoot’s deficit is just too far to make a comeback.
Lightfoot only garnered 16% of the vote compared to Johnson’s 20% and Vallas’ 35%
Per the New York Times, Paul Vallas the man with the most votes heading into the run off is a Democrat with a Conservatives view when it comes to crime.
