At a Congressional hearing on ‘anti-LGBTQ violence,’ a Democratic Representative agreed with LGBTQ activists that the words ‘groomer’ and ‘pedophile’ are prejudicial towards sexual orientation and gender identity.
At the House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing, Rep. Katie Porter asserted that the use of the term “groomer” and “pedophiles'” to refer to LGBTQ+ people is a “malicious lie” that implies they are a threat. Porter and HRC president Kelley Robinson then claimed Twitter is dangerous for allowing such terms to be used.
Porter stated “You know, this allegation of ‘groomer’ and ‘pedophile,’ it is alleging that a person is criminal somehow and engaged in criminal acts merely because of their gender identity, their sexual orientation, their gender identity,”.
